I live in Mississippi and a single mother of two that depends on my unemployed benefits. My benefits has exhausted as of December 12,2011 from my understanding of listening to the extension policy I will not recieve any more benefits. I do not understand how a person can work 10 or more years only receive 1 year of benefits to support your family then the reason I do not have a job is due to reduction in force. This is not my fault as result of me being placed on unemployment benefit. The unemployment benefits extension should be in effect for all individual receiving benefit for at least 3 more months this will give the individual a chance to seek employment since the college student are returning back to school. I have no other means of supporting my family and I have been seeking employment but it has been unsuccessful in finding full time employment. What will I do since my unemployment benefit has exhausted? I can not afford to pay rent, bills and buy my son clothes for school. I guess the politicans would like to see my family HOMELESS.

I just lost my job. Never collected unemployment beneficts in the states before. Strange thing is I was one of the people who worked for DEO, the late workforce agency in Florida. To be specific I worked for a contractor, Faneuil, who used to process the excess call volume the goverment office could not handle. About 300 people, 10,000+ calls a day one call center alone. We were told Florida’s Unemployment Dept. did not renewed our contract and for that reason we were no longer needed, so we all got our yellow envelopes and meaningless thanks from our former employer and we were sent home, Monday morning 12/19/11. when I began working there I used to work 10am to 10pm, a good hour after the system shut down just to clear the lines. People used to wait on average more than an hour on the line. At the end of the job the wait time was less than 15 mins. Our hours went down to 8am to 5pm, to 8am to 3pm, to nothing. Now those wait times are going back up, so be ready fellow unemployed floridians to wait, and wait, and wait on the phones to be told you have to wait, wait, wait.

I am a single mother from Florida who went from making a comfortable 40k per year to collecting 14k ($275 per week) in unemployment insurance over two years ago. I have taken every job I have been offered, but they have all been temp positions. No one can afford to offer benefits, so the opt to hire temps. I haven’t had a temp position in over a year, so now I am considered unemployed without a stable and current work history. Basically, I’m a 99er who is considered unemployable. REALLY? Do the employers live in a bubble? I have had to file bankruptcy, I have exhausted my regular unemployment insurance, all four tiers of the emergency, and now my extended benefits, so I have been told by an employee for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (what a joke), that my benefits will end as of January 7th, because that’s when the program ends, even though I will have a little over $100 left on this claim. I’m not “entitled” to it. Apparently, the bill the senate passed (and then hightailed it to enjoy their paid holiday vacations) for the two month extension on jobless benefits for the long term unemployed does not apply to me. I have been diligently seeking employment for over two years, and now I am faced with being homeless with a nine year old daughter. I simply want to know, if God forbid, I don’t find employment, will I qualify for the 2012 two month extension?? I’m terrified!!!

I truly believe that politicians are doing what they think is helpful, but unfortunately like many that have those more secured union jobs (private or the public sector); any type of jobs working for the government (which only seem to hire people that they know “cronyism” more than who is actually qualified for the position); to people that have low paying jobs, although they still live with their Baby Boomer parents free of rent and bills, so there is little pressure to actual make more than $12/hr – these are the out of touch people in American society, the Entitlers which are telling the less fortunate that have to fend for themselves, try to live below their means on unemployment insurance, telling the rest of us “to get a job bum!!!”. How Ignorant.

This is why 3 economic movements are being formed throughout this once wonderful country. The first movement: the Tea Party, then the Market Occupiers…

…Unfortunately the 3rd Movement, will be the true Economic Revolution, when common folks that continue to fend for themselves, the little govt assistance out there is no longer available, this will be the time, where the fortunate will experience economic loss (not just through the stock market and real estate), but instead when the less fortunate break into your homes, cars, kidnap your children, and instead of wasting hours looking for bullshit jobs with no benefits, to the wasted time we spend applying for $200 food stamps and govt assistance of $200 a month, we are coming for you. No joke.

Even with $900 in unemployment for 2 weeks, try living in the Bay Area (in a bad neighborhood for example; like Richmond, East Palo Alto, West Oakland, Tendrlions of San Francisco, Vallejo, Marin City, Pittsburgh) for $1100/mo., utilities at $100, phone at $100, food at $200+, clothing and hygiene (we need to look presentable during a job interview) for another $100/mo, car insurance at $100, medical at $200+, gas at $200, childcare at $200, which totals $2300+ per month…WOW, with the huge amount of unemployment benefits, living below our means, I still fall into debt $500 a month. Not even counting credit card bills and bullshit bank fees.

Stop being so ignorant about unemployment and the less fortunate thinking they are taking advantage of the 99 weeks with $450/wk which averages $18000 (after taxes) in a year, for a total of 2 years of unemployment insurance maximum.

Not much money living in any part of America, and definitely not enough to live in California, especially San Francisco Bay Area, LA/Orange County, San Diego, and anywhere where rent is over $600 per month.

Oh yeah, this cost of living lifestyle is for 1 person; throw in a wife, and some children, and now you have pushed once employed hard-workig people in a poverty position, despite having an education or not.

You are so smart and employed, what would you do, if you lost your job, exhausted your unemployment insurance, savings, 401k, lost your home, car, and it still cost $2000 per month (excluding wife and children) to live below your means prior to committing a crime? Tell me where I can apply for a $14/hr job with medical insurance for my 2 little children?

There are different standards for the rich and poor. After working all my life in Hospitality Management, I experienced many Hotel and Restaurant falling by the wayside and suffered many closures and lay offs. I was always able to find another door to open after one had closed…but not anymore. I am 62 now I am not bouncing back, if there are jobs out there,there are even fewer for someone my age. I am on Tier 2 Unemployment. I have no Medical Insurance, no home, barely have transportation, these are the things I cannot afford even with unemployment benefits. If an extention is not granted, shall I just lay down and die, as a throw away. The government has no idea, how it is on the street for the regular workers and the sacrifices and suffering, we already have nothing. Not enough is being done, they are out of touch.

It’s been hell!!! Can’t sleep insomnia, depression and anxiety twenty four seven. It pisses me off that our government is playing w/our lives! My husband lost his job in April which he had for thirty years! Now we put our home up for sale (which we have worked and payed for over 17 years) because we can no longer afford to live in our area. So what right does the government have saying we are lazy or need to be drug tested to have unemployment benefits? Not all unemployed are lazy drug addicts!!! I resent the governments implications!!!!!!!!! Revolt against our government! Get off your fat asses and save the middle class! You should be fired without any unemployment see how you like it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just recently laid off from my work ,and man I got to admit ,right now im feeling very nervous ,scared and super worried because Im a single mother with 2 little girls and no support from family because they dont even live here , and my husband was deported so Im completely alone and worried sick not really for me but for my ittle babys and still no luck finding any job man I didnt ask for this at all I still remember when I had my job man those were the wonderful days I really didnt ask to be laid off so I am super sick and tired of hearing some people say that we just sit on our buts doing nothing and were freeloading,man if yall only were in my shoes to know that Im trying sooo sooo hard to find a job to support my babys but I have no luck

WELL NO BECAUSE THEY AREN’T LIVING IN OUR SHOES. THE HAVE FINE HOME LOTS OF MONEY AND CAN GO ON VACATION. I WAS LAID OF IN MAY 2010 AND WAS SUPPOSE TO GET 99 WEEKS AND TOLD ONLY GET THIS MANY WEEKS NOT ALL. WELL SOME OF MY FRIENDS AND RELATION LIVE OTHER STATE HAVE BEEN GETTING FOR 3 YEARS. BUT LIFE GETS WORSE WHEN YOU LOOK AND LOOK THERE IS NO JOBS. AND IF YOUR A LITTLE BIT OLDER THAN 60 YOU ARE NOT WANTED. I NEED THE EXTENTIONS FOR HOUSE PAYMENT AND OTHER BILLS.

I am about to reach 99 weeks. I a 53, laid off after 3 1/2 years. I lost my house and now live in my car with my cat. Still no job yet i apply every day. I am a disabled veteran.. You congress just want to play. YOU have houses, jobs and money. You do not know what it is like. I served my country yet i do not see my country helping me now. What is your problem?
